VHF Radio operator's course for ALL Boaters
Get your Restricted Operator's Certificate - Maritime (ROC-M)
Anyone using a maritime VHF radio in Canada is legally required to have a Restricted Operator's Certificate. The ROC-M is valid for life.
The ROC-M course covers routine and emergency radio use, the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System, radio terms and operation, the phonetic alphabet and radio frequencies for Canadian waters, as well as Digital Selective Calling. The course includes an exam, which will take place on the second day. Successful candidates will receive a temporary certificate to use immediately until the permanent card has been sent by mail.
Date: June 27 & 28, 2026; 9 am-12 pm
Location: Hornby Island
Cost: $190 with printed manual; $185 with digital manual.
The course fee includes the manual, exam, application and processing fees and physical card.
Registration: limited to 10 people. Registration closes May 20, 2026.
Manuals will be sent out at the start of June to allow time for participants to read the material prior to the start of the course.
